Introducing The Team- Our Honduran Interns

May 5, 2022 | The Majestic Crossing Team

My name is Fany Murcia and I come from Lepaera, Lempira a small town in the Western part of Honduras.

Before studying at University I was a computer technician. But I realized that I really wanted to study agriculture so I decided to enter the National University of Agriculture (UNAG) where I graduated in agronomic engineering in December. I had the opportunity to come here to the U.S. for a year to gain more experience, so I came here to Wisconsin.

The farms here in the U.S. are different from most of the farms where I grew up. I like to learn about the technology and all of the different practices used for cows and growing crops. I really love being around cows, they make me happy.

Here at Majestic Crossing I mostly work with the cows. My mornings sometimes start with fresh cows,  I make sure that all of the fresh cows get taken care of. And I really like to work in the maternity pen, with the calving cows, and newborn calves. Sometimes I really get stressed because I want to see that cow and that calf, and I want to make sure that everything goes well and the calf is alive and taken care of.  I also treat cows if they get mastitis. Another part of my job is cleaning all the stalls, to make sure the stalls are dry for the cows before they lay down. I do some maintenance, but I’m not so good at that, but the guys help me a lot. Since I’ve got here, they motivate me to learn and keep learning, and they always push me to do better and better every day. I just love what I do, and everyone works as a team on that farm. I love that, they all come together and do the job, and we get everything done.

My name is Marlon Oyuela, I grew up on a small dairy and beef farm in Francisco de Oriente, Francisco Morazan, Honduras. I have always loved working with cows. The first time I came to the U.S. I worked in Texas and I really liked that experience. I liked the way they worked there, the discipline, the order, and the technology they had. We have technology in Honduras, but it’s not the same as what is here in the U.S.

Here at Majestic Crossing, I do many jobs, including milking, cleaning, and maintenance, but my favorite is working with the cows and calves.

The visa I came here with is a one-year, educational type of visa. It is so that I can learn more and have more experiences. I went to university in Honduras to become an agronomist, so I want to learn more and I have learned a lot here at Majestic Crossing.

Hello, my name is Samuel Mondragon! I come from Choluteca, Choluteca, Honduras. I grew up on a dairy farm and went to University to study agriculture.

I didn’t know anything about Wisconsin before I came here. I didn’t even know it was going to be cold. I kind of like the snow but would like it if it could be a little warmer. I was also surprised by the scale of technology here. I knew it was big, but it really shocked me how efficient the farms here are because of technology.

Like the others, my job here at Majestic Crossing is a little bit of everything. I do milking, feeding calves, cleaning, maternity, and maintenance. But my favorite is working with the calves. I hope after my year here at Majestic Crossing is over to be able to take what I have learned and my experiences from here back to Honduras and apply it to my work there.
