It Takes a Dairy to Raise a Cow

Caring for our animals is a 24/7 job. We're lucky to have a great team who works hard to give our cows the best care possible.

Caring for our animals is a 24/7 job. We’re lucky to have a great team who works hard to give our cows the best care possible.

Our dairy is a team, and it takes a lot of people to keep our operation running smoothly. We’re proud that Majestic Crossing employs 24 people in our community, including the four farm families that are part of our business.  Here’s a little who’s who for you:

  1. Milkers.  We have a core number of employees who milk our cows.  It’s a 24/7 operation, and these people keep our fresh, wholesome milk flowing out to consumers.Milkers
  2. Herd managers.  These folks are in charge of animal care and supervision, helping with everything from cows giving birth, to feeding the animals to keeping detailed health records.
  3. Maintenance. There’s a lot of maintenance that needs to happen on our buildings.  This team keeps things in tip-top shape.
  4. Farm Operation. These are the folks who plant, fertilize, grow and harvest the crops, as well as keeping our farm equipment well-maintained.Harvest
  5. Management. This team works with employees, keeps current with rules and regulations, pays the bills and keeps the business running.Management

When a farm gets bigger, you can specialize, but there are still situations when it’s “all hands on deck.” Although I’m in the office a lot, running the business, I’m also out driving tractor and planting the fields. It’s important that our people are adaptive and cross-trained.  The more skills our employees have, the more value they bring to our farm.

Majestic Crossing contributes to the community by supporting other businesses, too. Ninety percent of our spending is local, and we’re able to do that because here in Wisconsin there’s such a good dairy infrastructure. Our veterinarians, bank, fertilizer and feed companies, and milking equipment company are all local. And of course, you can’t forget our cheese company, Sartori.Highland Dairy

Our business runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so it’s important to have great service nearby. There’s a thriving service community here that supports our thriving dairy community – so it’s a win-win for everyone. We feel fortunate that together, we can all help produce delicious milk and cheese and make a living doing it.
