June is Dairy Month

Jun 17, 2014 | Dairy News, Life on the Farm

It’s hard to believe that June has rolled around again. That means it’s June Dairy Month, when we celebrate milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream and the farm families who produce dairy foods. My favorite part of June Dairy Month is the chance to participate in Sheboygan County’s annual Breakfast on the Farm.

This year it’s being held Saturday, June 21 at Jensema Farms, and includes a traditional farm breakfast, a chance to meet our county’s dairy mascot, “Addie,” a pedal tractor pull contest, and even a chance to meet Wisconsin’s 67th annual Alice in Dairyland. The first 300 kids, age 10 and under, will get a free T-shirt with donation of a non-perishable food item that will be donated to a local food pantry. Click here for more details about the event, including how you can buy tickets in advance.

I’ll be there helping out and watching hundreds of Sheboygan County folks enjoy the farm and learn about where there food comes from. I’ll probably even taste some of the Badgerland Barnyard Blast Ice Cream and, of course, the Sartori Cheese. Plus, proceeds from the event enable the Sheboygan County Dairy Promotion Association to provide free presentations using “Addie” the Cow in classrooms throughout Sheboygan County.

If you’re not from this part of Wisconsin, check out this link to all of Wisconsin’s farm breakfasts and find one near you. Hope to see you at Breakfast on the Farm!
