Every year I like to look back over the last 365 days and share a few of the highlights with you. This year I wanted to share some of our highs and for transparency’s sake, something that did not go well for us.

So what went well? First, despite a more challenging year with the weather, we had a decent crop year. It wasn’t a year for amazing yields but considering what we were up against, we are happy with our harvest. We made good, home-grown feed for our cows, and have enough until next year when we get to do it all over again. So that’s a win.
The second thing that really went well is our internship program. I talked about the students we have here from Honduras a few months ago. We are learning from the interns while they learn from us and it’s energizing to see their passion for agriculture and learning. We are excited that this program has gone so well for not only our farm but also for the students. We are looking forward to continuing this program and welcoming more interns in the future.
I never want to paint the picture that life is all rainbows here at the farm. While we have a positive outlook and enjoy what we do here at the farm, not everything goes just as we would like them to. Just like everyone else out there we still have struggled with supply chain issues. Getting what we need when we need it has been frustrating at times. This fall during harvest one of our tractors broke down. Of course, parts were back ordered and we had to wait to get what we needed. We had to shift a lot of our plans around while we waited for the tractor to be fixed and when that happens during harvest, it makes for a big headache. Thankfully the parts eventually got here and we got the tractor up and running again.
As we look forward at 2023 we have far more things to be excited about than we have to be worried over and that’s not a bad way to start off a new year.
