We’ve got exciting news at Majestic Crossing Dairy. We are installing a new, state-of-the-art manure digester that will create clean water, biogas for use on the farm, and natural fertilizer for our fields. We recently received DNR approval to move ahead with the project, and we’re doing it with the help of Digested Organics as well as local contractors and purveyors. The digester is going to have some amazing results that will positively impact the environment, including a 50-60% reduction in water use, a more concentrated fertilizer product that will result in fewer trucks on the road, and the production of a sustainability produced biogas.
Although this technology is new for farming, it’s actually based on a process that’s been around for 25 years in the water reclamation world, separating solid and liquid in municipal water waste. We will be using manure even more efficiently, and along the way reducing methane gases and recycling the manure back into clean water to be used on the farm, fertilizer for our crops, and biogas that we can use to power generators, boilers and more.
Yes, it’s an investment to build this system. But we believe in doing what’s right, and putting our best foot forward. We need to always be innovative in the dairy world when it comes to housing, feeding and caring for our cows and caring for the land. Our next challenge is looking at how we handle our manure and using it sustainably. We’re proud to be leading the charge, and look forward to other farmers following our lead. If we can accomplish this, it opens up our industry to continued success. And that means keeping on making the quality products we’re known for all over the world.
