Dairy Business 101

Oct 1, 2015 | Dairy News, Life on the Farm

Running a dairy farm requires a lot of knowledge, but when it comes down to it, it’s like running any other business. Because no matter what business it is, people are what drive your success.

Here at Majestic Crossing, management gives direction, but it’s essential to have well-trained employees. There are many systems in place to ensure accountability, and because we work together and share in the benefits of the work, we’ve got a lot of buy-in from our employees. Management can’t always be here. What happens if there’s a sick cow or a broken down piece of milking equipment on a Sunday afternoon, or during a Packer game? Because our employees are well trained and we have strong standard operating procedures, they know how to handle these situations.

We’ve got really good people working with us here at the farm. We treat them well, and they feel as sense of responsibility to us, to the animals and to the business.

Because I’m active in dairy leadership in the state, I need to be away from the farm sometimes. It’s a good feeling to know that there’s a whole team behind me, keeping things running smoothly. From my brother and dad, to our employees, to the dairy service industry that supports us, we’re strongest when we all work together.
