Dairy Coach

May 24, 2015 | Dairy News, Life on the Farm

You’ve heard of Little League coaches, football coaches and even life coaches. But would you believe that there’s such a thing as a dairy coach? We use a dairy coach at Majestic Crossing Dairy to help us and our employees communicate and keep learning about animal care and milk safety.

Regular team meetings keep our employees educated on best dairy practices

Our dairy coach meets with our team of employees and management once a month. He brings something new to each meeting, whether it’s skid steer training, animal handling or milk quality. It makes us all accountable to each other, and ensures that all of our employees have the same, high-quality training. Maybe this is one reason that we recently passed our annual animal care audit with flying colors.

Our monthly meeting is also a safe zone where employees know they can speak up if something’s bothering them, or if they have questions. We talk about changing things that aren’t working, and a lot of times employees will learn and understand why we do things the way we do. Most of all, these monthly meetings reinforce the value of our team.

Having a dairy coach costs money, but it’s worth it. Our employees win because they receive more training and communication. The animals win because we can care for them even better with the latest training. And our team wins because communication stays open.
