Taking a Breather

Feb 6, 2014 | Dairy News

A few weeks ago, I was able to take a vacation. One week away to a warmer climate – a few adventures and some time to relax. It was much needed, and I came back recharged and ready to dive back into the work again.

Great employees make everything run smoothly

I feel very fortunate in that I’m able to get away for a week or so every year because our farm is run by family. When I’m gone, my brother Darin is the go-to person if there’s a problem. Darin manages employees and oversees the barns and animals year-round, so he knows everything that’s going on with the farm. My dad is really involved with the business side of things, and helps pull together our taxes and other paperwork. We’re all invested in the business and we cover for each other so we’re able to have some time off. We also have great employees who are highly trained and care about the animals and about the business. All that means I can leave and I really don’t worry.

Last year was definitely a challenging year for farming. The weather was strange, we had a late spring and all year we were pushing to get things done. We worked together and had a successful year, and we all deserve some time off.

Everyone deserves a vacation. But it’s really important knowing that the farm is in good hands when I’m gone. After coming home, I’m even more grateful for what we’ve got here at Majestic Crossing Dairy, and I’m ready to get it done.
